Ever wish you could call that "neighbor" down the street to let them know they left their garage door open...or that their dog is on the loose? Wish you could send out a mass email to alert your block about a petty theft or worse?
Neighborhood directories are important for everything between crime and Kool-Aid stands. Because we're in the business of helping you "choose great neighbors" we wanted to spend a little time this spring bonding with our own!
Here's how we created a neighborhood directory. With applications like WORD and PAGES you can do the same thing in under 2 weeks.
- Alert all neighbors that you are collecting info and let them know it is not for solicitation but only as a method of communication about neighborhood happenings. Below is the letter we delivered door-to-door.
- Set a deadline of when you need responses. Stick to your deadline and begin entering information into your desired word processor.
- We organized information by street - arranging them in ascending numerical order. No columns were used...font size 24.
- When all is added you can choose: Print - PDF menu - Make Booklet. This may not be universal information, but in general word processors have a way to create a booklet that will print on an 8.5"x11" piece of paper and fold to create a booklet.
- Cover - cardstock. Inside pages - regular copy paper. We included extra information and a map to make it pretty!
Have fun creating your neighborhood directory! We had such a positive response to ours and once something is in place it's easy to update with changes and new arrivals!
If you're planning a move this spring, we'd love to help you choose the best neighbors possible!
